Fakeaway Zinger Burger - The Village Butchers

Fakeaway Zinger Burger

Ever wondered how your favourite takeaway makes your favourite dish? Sometimes it’s secret blends of ingredients that we’ll never known and sometimes it’s just made with a lot of love.

This KFC Fakeaway Zinger Burger comes in really close to the real thing. All the ingredients are ingredients you’ll typically find in your cupboard anyway, even down to the crisp!

An easy to follow recipe that might even trick the kids into thinking it’s the real deal.

Cooking Method

  1. Before you start prepping, pre heat your oven to 180 °C.  Combine all your dry ingredients including your nachos, chilli powder, garlic, paprika and onion into a bowl or a sandwich bag and mash them up together to create crumbs.
  2. Prep your chicken (It works best to use skinless chicken breasts). Pat down your chicken so it’s completely dry.
Taking a small dish, break your egg into it and lightly stir. Dust your chicken breasts lightly with the cornflour and then start to add the chicken breast to the egg by dipping it in and then placing on a baking tray.
  3. Now that your chicken has been coated, add your mix of crumbs by sprinkling the mix over both sides of the chicken.
To get the best results try to evenly cover the chicken so that there aren’t clumps.
  4. With your fully coated chicken now ready, Spray your cooking spray evenly over the chicken and pop it in the oven for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, turn the chicken over and spray a bit more cooking spray. After 40 minutes check your chicken and return to the oven for 10-15 minutes or until cooked.
  5. Assembly your cooked zinger burger by adding lettuce or any of your favourite burger toppings (cheese, tomato, onion, you name it!), your chosen sauce and your burger buns and enjoy your home cooked fakeaway.

The Ingredients

  • 4 Chicken Breast Fillets
  • 1 large egg
  • 35g Chilli flavoured Nacho’s (Doritos work best)
  • Low calorie cooking spray
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 tsp onion granules
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp mild chilli powder
  • 1-2 tsp cornflour
  • 4 Sesame seed burger buns
  • Lettuce (optional for serving)

What to serve with Zinger Burger?

If you’re wanting to create the whole fakeaway experience at home, you can pair your zinger burger with oven cooked chips or wedges and creamy (or crunchy) coleslaw. You can even enjoy your burger alone (this recipe can work perfectly for just 2 people).

To make your zinger even more perfect, we strongly suggest lightly toasting your bun and adding a creamy mayonnaise to balance out the heat. A little bit of bacon on top will also knock this burger out the park.
