Sirloin Steak Caesar Salad

A sirloin steak Caesar salad is a deliciously light and fresh meal, perfect for a summer BBQ. The succulent flavour of the juicy steak with the crisp, classic salad makes for a quick and easy dinner the whole family can enjoy.

This steak Caesar salad recipe will make an ideal mid-week meal as it can be prepared in just 30 minutes and let’s face it, on a blazing hot day there’s nothing more refreshing than a salad.

Cooking Method

  1. Combine all the ingredients for your salad dressing and in a tightly covered container, shake them all together until they’re well mixed. Then keep this in the fridge until serving time.
  2. Heat your coals or gas grill to ensure direct heat.
  3. Sprinkle pepper on your steak, cover and grill it over a medium heat for 15 to 18 minutes to achieve a medium cook, turning the meat once during cooking.
  4. Cut your steak across the grain into thin slices.
  5. In a large bowl, toss your romaine lettuce, cheese, croutons, and dressing to thoroughly combine it.
  6. Top your finished Caesar salad with your steak slices and serve, with extra shredded cheese if needed.

The Ingredients

For a traditional Caesar dressing you will need:

  • 1 large garlic clove, chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of anchovy paste
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • ¼ of a cup of either vegetable or olive oil
  • ¼ of an egg white product (fat-free and cholesterol-free)

For the salad you will need:

  • Fresh premium sirloin steak
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly ground pepper
  • 1 head romaine lettuce, ripped up into small pieces
  • 1 cup of croutons flavoured with garlic
  • ½ cup of shredded parmesan cheese

Key steps for success

  • Leave the steak to sit at room temperature for around 20 mins prior to grilling so the meat cooks evenly.
  • Make sure you let the covered steak rest for a minimum of 5 minutes before you slice it to preserve the juices.
  • A food processor or mini prep are great for keeping your dressing emulsified. If you don’t have a food processor you can add oil into the other ingredients slowly in a consistent stream whilst vigorously whisking.
